2020 Wild Wuliang Maocha (20g)


2020 wild maocha from Wuliang.

If you've ever heard me talk about specific areas in Yunnan than you may have picked up on how Wuliang and Jingmai are at the bottom of my list. That being said, this has been something that stood apart to me. After reading how Akira Hojo was out there doing single tree tasting sets of maocha I kept looking for the ability to do something similar. Eventually I was talking to someone who was doing something with a lesser expensive area and landed on small 400-500 gram lots of a few different years. The 2020 in my opinion should sit a bit longer, but this 2019 seems quite ready. Unlike much of the 'yesheng' that is out there, this isn't a sour punch in the face. Surprisingly, it's got a very mellowing effect for me while having a complex taste that I would almost dub as the wild floral maocha of Yunnan but that doesn't really explain it. Very unique, not for all but certainly something I've yet to have duplicated in my cup in the past.
