After quite some time, I have found a autumn/winter replacement for the memories that Tongmu black tea held for so long. Whether recent times has resulted in less than desirable teas from that area, my sourcing isn't as strong there, or whatever... this tea takes care of the itch for a specific tasting note in a black tea that comes from the aromatic of smoke. Do not read that word and think lapsang style right away. This is the type of mature smoky aroma that reminds me of aged pipe tobacco. Aroma/smell being much of how we taste things, it does carry over but the leaf itself is full on malt and big bold tippy black tea. If I close my eyes, there's a sensation of being in a sophisticated room with aged tobacco laying near something of mahogany as that smell comes to mind as well and then in spite of how strong the brew is there is a touch of manuka honey on the backend; very specific type of honey note, a bit funky and less sweet. 

This tea embodies the concept that Proust wrote about more than many other teas as each sip pulls out a memory or demands to just close my eyes and let the images flow through.
