Modern style: Y Tý Dao Village
Spring 2025 "Y Tý is a beautiful tea area in Lào Cai province right on the border with China. There are two villages that have old tea trees here, one is inhabited by H’Mông people and the other Dao.
This tea is from the Dao village. Although only a few kilometers apart, this area has more rocky soil and more windy, dry days than the H’Mông village. The leaves are also brighter green than the trees in the other area. Tea trees in Y Tý have especially beautiful leaves.

Semi modern semi classic: Giàng Pằng
Giàng Pằng is a beautiful area in Yên Bái province. You drive up a treacherous dirt road, crossing streams and rocky sections until you reach the village at 1400m. The people living here are of the H’Mông ethnicity. You can see goats and exotic looking chickens and ducks scurrying around the tea tree gardens. This area also produces high quality cinnamon and you can see the cinnamon tree bark sun drying at people’s houses from time to time throughout the year.
This tea is made from medium, old and ancient tree material from our friend Lềnh’s family’s gardens that I processed in mid April. It is probably about 70% ancient tree tea leaf.
This tea brews up into a rich green golden soup. Vegetal and a bit floral with the characteristic melon/ plum leathery character that is prevalent in teas from Giàng Pằng. Low-medium bitterness and astringency. Nice huigan, medium+ thickness and good longevity.
Season: April 2025
Picking Standard: 1 bud, 2-3 leaves
Region: Giàng Pằng, Yên Bái
Elevation: 1400m

A nice raw puerh from old/ancient trees in a new area on the Chinese border in Hà Giang we started working with this year.
Ngài Là Thầu is a beautiful area north of Hà Giang city. There are sweeping terraced hillsides that turn gold when the rice is ripe in the Autumn.
This tea brews up quickly into a rich golden soup. Thick mouthfeel and heavily sweet/ fragrant with notes of tropical fruit and flowers. Low but enough bitterness and astringency to keep everything in balance. Lingering huigan, nice qi effect and goes many rounds.

Uncommon style: Túng Sán
A delicious and interesting take on raw puerh from our good friend in Túng Sán.
This tea is made from ancient trees growing on the western face of Tây Côn Lĩnh mountain, the highest peak in Hà Giang province.
This tea was made in an atypical way borrowing a bit from oolong processing. There is a shaking step and extended withering to boost fragrance and sweetness.
This tea brews up quickly into a rich golden soup. Highly fragrant with notes of meadow flowers, alpine forest and honey. Low bitterness/ astringency and lasting huigan effect/ qi. This is the most fragrance and honey forward of all the raw puerhs this year.
Season: April 2025
Picking Standard: 1 bud, 2-3 leaves
Region: Túng Sán, Hà Giang
Elevation: 1400-1600m
